8-10-15
I’ve ordered the 9mm hook, the white, red, and missing gray I need.
8-14-15
I’ve discovered that after finishing the first 23 rounds, I had joined in the round when I should have been crocheting flat. Sigh. Tearing out to start over.
8-19-15
Top flat section finished; joining in the round for the cocoon.
8-25-15
The whole body’s finished. Yay! Crocheting with this large a hook is kind of tiring, though. My forearms don’t love all the extra movement.
8-31-15
Tail done and both little fins done; dorsal begun!
9-1-15
Sewed on the tail and finished fins. Still working on the dorsal. ~Later~ The dorsal fin is done and I just have to sew it on and do the eyes. Pretty sure I’m gonna drag my feet on that. I’ve got chronic hate-to-finish-itis.

Got his dorsal fin sewn on. I chose not to stuff it with batting as all I could imagine was trying to watch TV with it sticking up in the way. I don’t love how big the eyes turned out. Perhaps next time I’ll only do one row to end with 10 sc. However, it’s pretty cute. Definitely gonna make these for the Anderson babies for Christmas.
Pattern Shit
I started the pattern with a gray foundation row because my red hadn’t arrived. However, I like the look of adding the red gums later. I also varied the height of the stitches to mimic the curve of a shark mouth (4 SC, 11 HDC, 10 DC, 11 HDC, 4 SC).
I decided to forego the BLO on the tail because I didn’t like the ribbed texture and how floppy it seemed.
Instead of edging the underside of the flat bit in white as the pattern suggested, I did gray and changed to white for the teeth. More ends to weave in but I like it better.
I did eyes in black with the 9mm hook starting with a 5 sc magic circle, sc increasing in each st for two rounds (turning after each round), ending with 20 sc.
