Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the handspun yarn I used in the upper part of the shawl, eventhough it was the source of inspiration for this project.
The pattern calls for a bulky weight yarn as a main color and a light fingering weigth held double as the contrast color. Instead I used a worsted weight throughout held together with a light worsted gorgeous handspun yarn for the MC part. I had no idea what do with 5 gramms and only 75 meters of yarn, I just fell in love with the color and lovely texture and had to have it. When I saw the Treasure Island shawl in the Free Pattern Testers group I knew this yarn’s time has come to shine. I just had to find the right matching yarn, which was a lovely purple shade called Topán of Mosó Masa, a worsted weight extra fine merino from the Barka yarn family. Love this combo.
The pattern is well-written, easy to follow, I only had a bit of a trouble with the lace edging as I have never done it this way before. Once I wrapped my head around it, it was a breeze. It was an enjoyable knit and I absolutely love the end result, especially the way the thick fabric of the shawl stands around my neck and the simple elegance it provides.
This was my first test knit, but definitely not the last, I liked the fact that I HAD TO finish my project on time as I tend to have oodles of WIPs, having constant startitis. :)
This is also the first project I upload here to ravelry, I have only been peeking around, getting inspired by other knitters. Now I feel confident enough to show what I got, give back a little and hopefully I will be able to inspire others. Please do let me know if I managed to do so. :)
