Notes

This was my third project for the City and Guilds certficate.

My original inspiration were photographs I took a few years ago of burnt bark at the Eden Project in Cornwall.

For the back of the cushion I came up with a pattern inspired by the geometric fracturing of the burnt back.

For the front of the cushion I played around with sketches of a knot in the wood, until I reached a kind of flower design. I knew I wanted the central design to have a relief texture against a stocking stitch background, but it took some swatching of different texture patterns before I decided that k1,p1 moss stitch was the one I liked best.

I used 4 strands of brown and 4 strands of red held together throughout.

The final photo is of my mood board which I handed in along with my write-up and swatches (and of course the finished cushion!).
