Many knit hat designers tend to have mini noggins and, well, I do not (not a big deal). So, as is my habit, I often go up a needle size for hats and make pattern accommodations where I imagine I would need it. Takes all but 5 minutes to figure out with a calculator.

The following are the only changes I made to the pattern:

• Size 8US circular.
• Cast 90 stitches
• Knit 1 1/4 inches of rib (8 rows of 1x1 twisted rib).
• Round after ribbing: M1 after every 5th stitch to achieve 108 stitches.
• Knitted the knit part of the ribbing in twisted stitch.

Could have added an additional repeat to make it 5 in total rather than 4. This would have produced a slouch.

Cabling without needles was definitely useful. I highly recommend picking up this technique if you have not all ready.
