Held yarn double, and used a larger needle than stated in the pattern - To be honest, I just cast on 40 stitches in a k1,p1 rib, and was lucky enough to come across a pattern that had the same instructions, which I then followed for cable pattern. Just put in the thumbs when I thought it was best.

ALSO made flippy open tops, still finishing that on the first mitten, then on to the next!
