Cowl - CO 115 stitches onto a size 11 needle, switched to size 10 1/2’s and knit to pattern for 8”. Changed to size 10’s and continued in pattern. I tried to knit this in the round but didn’t take the time to really think it through (I was out of town visiting my folks). Tinked the 6 or 8 rows out and knit flat to pattern for 6”, worked with size 9’s for another 6”. I still have quite a bit of yarn left, all the lighter colors so I’m going to finish on size 8’s for at least 4”. BO using a suspended BO and size 9 needles. Done!….now the hard part (for me, at least), have to sew it together. I’ll lightly block it and figure it out.
Finished 4/21/24, used 200 grams.
Hat - Started 8/29/24, finished 8/31/24
Changed my mind on which hat pattern to use, I’ve had really good luck with the Yarniad’s “Nola Cloche” so I’m going with it. It’s a fun and reasonably fast knit, and has a dressier look than most beanie patterns. Using provisional CO, cast on 21 stitches onto a size 10 needle and follow pattern for bulky weight hat, size small/medium. Picked up 72 stitches around edge of band; 3 stitches per inch with a few exceptions. First and last inch, and 4 inches around cable, pick up 4 stitches. Started decreases at 2 1/2”, 12 stitches per section to start. Perfect! Used 42 g.
I used the darkest of the green (from a new skein, 27g) for the band, lightest color for the body leftover from the cowl. I love how it turned out! Now I need to find a pin or brooch for the cable!
My “sister” Patty gave me this beautiful sterling silver hummingbird brooch that belonged to her mother. It was actually a behest from a friend of her mother’s many years ago. The brooch has inset marquasites and a ruby eye. I love it! Such a special gift! It looks great on my hat.
