I’m making this sweater out of a handspun reclaimed denim and angora mix. 2/3 denim, 1/3 angora. It spun it up 3 ply worsted weight, 9 wpi, which is exactly what the yarn requirements are for this piece. It is truly the softest thing I’ve ever felt. The swatches are dead on for gauge.
12/15 - This is a top down knit. I had the hood completely done as was working the shoulder increases when I tried it on for the first time. The hood was so big and sloppy that I had to stop and consider how I would rework it. I started over and for the XL size, decided only increase to 86 stitches (instead of 94) and then over the next 20 rows I would decrease back to 70 stitches. I need to determine shoulder increases so that this thing doesn’t choke me. I’d like to work a deeper V, so I still have some modifications to work through that are feeling a bit intimidating right now. It would be easier to modify if this was worked flat, but I love the idea of no seams.
12/21 - Increased to the right amount of stitches starting at 10.5” until the piece measured 12.5”. Added the stitches evenly over the length until I had 88 stitches, then continued following pattern. This gave a much nicer, loose yet fitted hood.
2/1/09 - I was as far as the front pouch (to which I added a nice braided cable) when I thought to put it on my dress form. The pouch got started way too low, and I hate the high cross-over neckline. I frogged it back to the hood and now I’m making some changes to give it a nice low V-neck.
