cast on 44 stitches. 2x2 rib for 20 rows. start thumb gusset. put 18 stitches on holder. knit 24 rows up the hand. decrease 1 stitch each end, every other row to 10 stitches on each needle. kitchner the top.

pu stitches for thumb. knit 15 rows. start decreases.

I am going to line these with some soft fleece. They’re a bit big, so that will make them fit better and give the boy some added warmth.
