Halos of Hope / Buffalo Wool Company collaboration: Benjamin Levisay posted a request on Facebook for 25 volunteers to knit hats. I sent in my name, and the yarn arrived 21 June. I’ve made my own pattern choice.

Knitted 2 inches of hat; have 50.3 grams (~78%) left.
Knitted 4.25 inches of hat; have 35.2 grams (~55%) left.

I measured one round (on the US5s), and it took just over 2 yards. The decrease section of this hat is 23 rounds, so that will be about 46 yards--except that rounds will be getting shorter. 46 yards should be 11.5 grams (400y/100g = 4y per gram--two rounds per gram). When I still have 15 grams left, I’m going to run a lifeline, then start the decrease section when I’ve got 11.5 grams left.

Hat was about 8.25” when I started the decreases. At that point, I had 12grams of yarn left. I finished with 6.8grams (27yds) left--so the decrease section used less than half of what I’d set aside. But I don’t know how close I’d care to cut it if I started another hat, and some other knitters felt that the hat was too long if they knitted more than 8” to the decreases.

I want to shop for a decorative button to go on the ribbing (and help hide the join on the ribbing). And I’m going to block this and see the famous “bloom.” I’ll soak it overnight (it’s nearly 2:30 Saturday morning), then lay it out in the morning (about six hours from now).
