I don’t want to knit the whole elephant in white, but I’m not sure I have enough red for him. I think I’ll plan on a white sweater with a red stripe on a red elephant. Then white stitching on the face.
I need to do this really fast. Meet and greet on Saturday with the parents-to-be, and it’s after 6pm on Thursday.
This yarn masquerades as worsted weight, but it’s really lighter than that. I’m using US5 needles to keep the fabric tight.
Not fast enough to be finished by today (June 1), and I’m not happy with the Red Heart Shimmer. There’s no stitch definition unless you use larger needles; then there’s so much stitch definition you can see the stuffing. Since I missed my deadline anyway, I’m starting over with Red Heart Super Saver in pink.
Finally getting back to this. I want to have it finished by July 6.
I had gotten into the body, put the arm stitches on waste yarn, knitted nearly an inch, then realized I had screwed up on the basic “slip stitches to waste yarn” step and had different stitches on the two arms. Ripped back and fixed it before I set this aside back in early June. So tonight I could just pick up and knit an inch, work increases, and knit another inch. I’m stopping at the end of Lesson 6. Lesson 7 deals with the afterthought legs.
Done in time for 6 July delivery to the parents’ friends. Seated, the elephant measures about 8 inches to the top of its ears. It’s a bit overstuffed--the arms shouldn’t actually stick straight out, and a bit less stuffing in the legs would have made it easier to keep it in a sitting position. On another occasion, I might try M1 increases rather than KFB: the M1s might be less obtrusive.
