After slipping my phone into the Baby/Toddler Sock I just made, I figured I’d try to improvise a dedicated cover with the leftover yarn from the sock project. I based the main design feature on the “Twist within a Cable” stitch from the “Knitting: The Complete Guide” book. The row-by-row instructions for that cable was plotted out assuming back-and-forth, I’m doing this in the round. That means my even row stitches are reversed from the original instructions.
I did this on size 5 DPNs, 16 stitches on needle 1, 8 stitches on both needles 2 and 3.
Here’s what I did.
Cast On 32 stitches.
10 rows of 2x2 ribbing: (K2 P2)x8
3 rows of knit: K32
1 row of purl: P32
12 rows of cable pattern (each needle represented by {})
Row 1, 5, 9: {P1 (K2 P2)x3 K2 P1} {P2 K6} {K6 P2}
Row 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12: same as Row 1
Row 3, 11: {P1 K2 P2 LC2x4 P2 K2 P1} {P2 K6} {K6 P2}
Row 7: {P1 RC2x4 P2 RC2x4 P1} {P2 K6} {K6 P2}
Repeat the 12-row cable pattern twice, for a total of 3 instances of the cable pattern.
1 row of purl: P32
5 rows of knit: K32
Bind off with kitchener stitch.
LC2x4: Slip 2 stitches to cable needle, place in FRONT. K2 P2 on left needle. K2 on cable needle.
RC2x4: Slip 4 stitches to cable needle, place in BACK. K2 on left needle. P2 K2 on cable needle.
