2015/02/16 - It was beautiful when I took it off the blocking mats. I’m excited to give it to my DW later this week.
2015/02/13 - I finished the knitting last weekend, at the car dealership while the car was getting serviced. I wondered how I would block it in secret. That problem solved itself when DW went to visit her parents for an overnight trip. I spent ~2 hours blocking the snot out of it -- very aggressively, I like nice open lace. Thank goodness for blocking wires to keep things smooth and not create points, and for Netflix to keep me entertained while I blocked it. On the blocking mat, the shawl measures 63” wide and almost 24” tall. I’m interested in seeing how it measures once I unpin it and it relaxes.
2015/01/28 - Progress has slowed considerably as DW is now home, which severely limits my options for secret knitting time. I have finished the 4th repeat of the final lace section and I really like the way the colors are working out here. One more lace repeat, then I start adding in Color E. I wonder if Color D is going to last me as long as it’s supposed to, and if Color E will make it all the way to the end.
2015/01/21 - Halfway through the 2nd repeat of the final lace section. I’m about to join Color D, and I think it’s looking pretty cool. I ran out of Color B 3 rows before the pattern told me to break it, but that’s not very noticeable -- it just transitions to solid Color C a little sooner. I hope this doesn’t mean I’ll be short on the rest of my colors as well. If so, I can always pick up another ball of Color E to extend the length to the end.
2015/01/19 - Finished Row 67, which is a little bit beyond the 2nd lace section. Color C is now integrated in the shawl. The color change here will be much more subtle -- Colors B & C are very similar. Really digging how this is turning out.
2015/01/17 - Almost done with the 2nd lace section.
2015/01/16 - Made it through the rest of the gradient color change and partway through the 2nd lace section. I botched one of the lace rows, but caught it before I got to the end of the row. I was able to tink back through the lace (yay!) and correct it. Rode the train from Greensboro to Cary, knitting almost the entire time. Finished with Color A, discovered it used 25g. So I’ve got half of that skein left with which to work on the matching hat I’m designing in my head.
2015/01/15 - Cast on and knit the first 42 rows. I was hoping to get to the point where I’d break the second strand of Color A, but I really needed to get to sleep.
2015/01/10 - Purchased yarn at Warm ‘n Fuzzy. They didn’t have the colors called for in the pattern, so we laid out the yarn a bit and came up with what I think will be a good color combination for the shawl. Rebecca complimented me on my good color sense, which was very encouraging.
Color A: 103 Frost - 25g used (start: 48g, end: 23g)
Color B: 139 Belize - 48g used (start: 48g, end: 0g)
Color C: 106 Birds Egg - 48g used (start: 48g end: 0g)
Color D: 108 Delft - 41g used (start: 49g end: 8g)
Color E: 104 Storm - 49g used (start: 49g end: <1g)
