I am thrilled how this all started - almost without my participation :)

First thing was, I was selecting a color for a man’s hat in a yarn shop. Close to me, a little shawl in Garter was hanging, knit of Aade Long Artistic 8/1. Based on garter stitch, which I basically dislike in shawls (makes them too rigid, I often think). But this one, so soft, and what a stitch definition! Aade long 8/1 is definitely made for garter shawls.

How come I still have no single shawl in Aade Long 8/1?

Just one look, and I fell in love with this flame colorway (but took a white skein for another project, too :) - it’s snowy around, invites white knittings, you know). Why flame, on earth? No idea. It’s almost Christmas, maybe the warm colorway reminds of these cosy evenings? Fireplaces? Christmas lights? Or is it just so that I miss foliage - the blooming summers and golden autumns…

With these thoughts, i came back home hugging my new Estonian wool. Started skimming through my Favorited shawls lists, looking for The One. And then it hit me. Yes! The shawl of right size, based on Garter, in perfect shape, AND with something foliage-like!
Moreover, due to some miracle, it appeared to be discounted - it was that day’s Advent Calendar offer. Can someone believe this? This very shawl design by Lisa Hannes that I really loved, discounted for the only day that I accidentally visited it’s site, not following the forum -- and, what a coincidence, the day was 16th, my lucky number!

How may I, after all, doubt, that I was meant from above to knit this shawl in this exact yarn, this exact winter. :)

Just let the Christmas come (and all knitted presents be finished), and I’ll relax with this one.
Oh yes, near a fireplace. With this fire in my hands and heart.

Miracles happen :)

Progressing happily and this was a nice companion in Holiday conversations with relatives :)

But! I am basically done with the garter part (doing extra repeats now already), time to do the finishing with the spectacular leafy thingy. And, surprisingly, the yarn “cake” still appears almost untouched. What amazing yield!
I would be happy but cannot help thinking, what to do with this ton of leftover? Three more Silverleaves? :)

Almost done, almost done! Drying already :) I am so happy to have it finished just before the New Year, as I recently realised these flame colours are just for 2017 considering the Chinese Horoscope :)

Technical things:

  • I took 1 ply Aade Long on 3,0 needle for a goid drape and airy finish. Love this in Garter, but I don’t really like the “meshy” look in st st. So, in the part with st stbackground (leafy motif), I knit with the yarn held double.
  • did some yarn cutting and joining to achieve the desired finish. The shawl starts in red and ends in red, the leafy motif is sharply framed in red w/o slow transition.

The shawl looks great! I’ll take some photos later, now just a quick telephone camera snap to prove I was on time to finish in before 2017 :D

P. S. Everyone should consider knitting something in “flame” for luck in 2017! You still have time, the Chinese year is said tostart with the new moon, by the 28th Jan imo :)

Happy New Year!
