First I divided the skein in half (by winding it and then weighing it until it was about even). Then I rewound each half until I was at the same place in the pattern so that my socks would match. As the photos show, the feet and ankles came out very close, but the heels are somewhat different.

Since I did not have circular needles in the correct size I did these on DPNs. I used 2.5 for everything except the ribbing at the top where I went down to size 1s.

I added texture to the pattern by searching striped socks and looking for something that didn’t complicate the self-striping of this yarn. Found what I wanted in: Harris Tweed Socks by Ali Green.

It’s an easy one, alternate:
Row 1 & 2: Knit
Row 3 & 4: Knit 2 purl 2

I used Elastic Cast-off for the edge. I used the 2.5 needle to work the stitches and it is loose enough and does not have that tight feeling at the leg that I wanted to avoid.

This was the first pair of socks I’ve knitted since a debacle in 8th grade when I started with a pair of slipper socks that required multiple colors and patterns. The one I did looked great, but it was incredibly too small. This time these are a bit loose and I’d go down a size or two in needles--which is easy to fix with the Mash-up’s calculator that works out the stitches from your gauge and measurements!
