Section 1

Short Rows & I-Cords

19 February 2016

Resorted to using straight short 25 cm long Knitpro Symfonie wood needles for this section as twisting circular cord and coloured yarn crossing was driving me mad!

Have made a start on section one as a test. I prefer Cat Bordhi’s hidden W&T, diamond necklace over the new hair-do, this is just the way my brain works and understands the visual memory reminder.

A number of Ravelers mention this section 1 being quite tight, will remember to keep the first 2 stitches in each row loose as SW mentions in his notes. Also will use crochet CO in waste yarn to give provisional CO, then start and finish both match and are live stitches.

The Cascade Heritage 4 ply is a lovely springy yarn which is helping keep the i-cords loose.

20 coloured wedges achieved today.

20-02-2016

Finished section 1, wedges 21 - 32 complete.

Section 2

PUKS, Intarsia

Easy pick up and knit of the 162 stitches on wider i-cord end. Rows 1 -13 with colour A introduced. Now repeating rows 10 - 12.

Section 3

i-cord bind off complete. Went much more quickly than anticipated 2.5 hours.

Section 4

PUKs for wings.

Errata in Pattern First paragraph after the heading Section 4, ……..then knit 35 stitches from waste yarn, should be, then knit 38 stitches from waste yarn.

Start made on right wing. Back to using small 25 cm length straight needles for this section.

If you have done your i-cord going in the wrong direction I realise then you could make a serious error with the wings regarding which side the decreases fall, as there is a part of the instructions which can be read in 2 ways. Looked at other Ravelers pictures and spotted that decreasing takes place on the upper neck side of the wings not on the lower hem edge, (this would have been helpful in the instructions) so I think I got everything before completed correctly as that is also how my decreases are falling.

Very much enjoying this project, although the sock yarn is not very soft and I have a pile of Alpaca wool sitting winking at me which wants to be knitted up as either another Rockefeller or a Metalouse!

2 March 2016

Onto 2nd wing, glad I had live stitches on hold instead of pick up from cast on edge.

I have NOT been weaving in any ends along the way, past experience with many projects has shown me that I always end up with and end poking out or a lump or bump visible at a critical point of view when the garment is worn. Picture 10 down shows the reverse side of the work before weaving in ends, it’s a lot tidier on the wrong side than I imagined it would be. People don’t tend to show the wrong side of knitting in their projects but I find it helpful to see. So, once all is finished I will weave in according to how I wear this.

6 March 2016

All done, tassels sewn on ends. I have included a pic of the wrong side before weaving in ends. Colours are most true in outside shots in the garden.
