When I wear this hat it reminds me of a combination of Dr. Seuss and Donna from That 70s show, hence the Seuss-like inspiration photo. “My foot in your ass” is a famous catchphrase of the father, Red, on the show. The title of the project is taken from the Seuss book Bartholomew and the Oobleck.
First time ‘round:
18 rows in, my crappy knitting needles from China broke. Then I looked at the beanie and realized that I’d somehow been knitting a mobius. Shoot me now. Restarting tomorrow.
Second time ‘round: After five hours of knitting on difficult-to-use size 4 dpns, and finding several dropped stitches, which could not all be fixed properly because I had knit tightly, I realized that I didn’t like the way this thing was pooling anyways and frogged it yet again. And now I think I given myself carpal tunnel. Uber-fail.
Third times the charm: momframer1 lent me her Addis to get the job done. Sigh of relief
Restarted on Oct. 18. The ribbing is done, and done perfectly, I might add. I’m loving this hat now, it’s super easy and fun, and I can’t wait until it’s finished so I can wear it!
Please note that my hat was knit haphazardly and didn’t really follow the pattern at all. The pattern was more like, “inspiration.” The first two repeats I purled 3 rows and knit 5 rows (instead of 6). For the third repeat I purled 4 rows and knit 6 rows, and the for the fourth, fifth and sixth repeats I did the made-up formula over again. I’m repeating this throughout the whole pattern, even as a I decrease. It adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the whole thing. It also makes it a couple rows shorter, which I wanted to do because I didn’t want the beanie to be too tall.
