I am knitting this project as a christening shawl for a baby in England (for a work colleague’s nephew).
22 Mar 2013: Started project using 3ply and 3.25mm dpn rather than the 4ply / 5mm needles suggested in the design. Switched to my Hiya Hiya interchangeable 3.5mm circular needles at about Row 40.
25 Mar 2013: Have done over 100 rows. Found that Row 104 should read 60 sts in each repeat. This is reflected in the errata on the designer’s webpage.
29 Mar 2013: Have done 136 rows and used 3 balls of yarn so far. Up to the leaves just before the border. Found that Row 118 should read K4, * K2tog, k13, rep from * to last 9 sts, K9. This pattern is a joy to do as you watch the pattern change and develop.
31 Mar 2013: Have done 153 rows and used 4 balls of yarn so far. I have finished the leaves before the border. Only another 23 rows to the border pattern.
01 Apr 2013: Have done 164 rows and used 5 balls of yarn so far.
02 Apr 2013: Finished the 6th ball of wool at Row 172. Started the edging and it is going to be slow going as I only did approximately 24 edging rows last night.
15 Apr 2013: Have done over 1,000 edging rows (almost 1/2 way round) and finished another ball.
17 Apr 2013: Have now done over 1,700 edging rows with another ball of yarn finished. Only about 2-300 edging rows to go.
18-19 Apr 2013: Finished knitting. Completed approximately 1,800 edging rows. Tidied up yarn ends. Now just to photograph pre-blocking, wash and block and photograph finished product over the weekend. Measures approximately 1.5m (5ft) across unblocked.
02 May 2013: Washed and blocked. Measures approximately 2m (6 1/2 ft) across blocked.
28 Mar 2015: Update. When I did this shawl I left the hole in the middle of the shawl open. However, when I did it a second time, I found that if I threaded the beginning tail through the stitches and pulled tight it created a better centre. (to me, anyway)
