No - my chicken’s not really depressed….but ‘The Chicken of Depression’ comes from an old Gary Larson ‘Far Side’ cartoon (seen here: http://www.thechickensofdepression.com/faqs.html ). :)

I used the ‘duck modification’ body for the chicken.

My additions;

Tail (main body colour):

10ch, turn.
Row 1: 1dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1dc in same st, then 2dc in ea st across, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Work 4dc in one st, 1hdc in next to the end, finish off and stitch to the tail end of the chicken,

Comb (red):

16 foundation single crochet, ch2, turn (16)
Row 1: (5dc in first st, 1sc in next) to end (8 shells), finish off and sew to top center head seam.

Wattle (red) (make 2):

4sc in a magic ring (4)
Rnd 1: 2sc in each st around (8)
Rnd 2: (1sc in the first st, 2sc in next) around (12)
Rnd 3: (1sc in the next 2sts, 2sc in next) around (16)
Rnds 4 & 5: Sc around (16)
Rnd 6: (2sc together, 1sc in next 6sts) x 2 (14)
Rnd 7: sc around (14)
Rnd 8: (2sc tog, 1sc in next 5sts) x 2 (12)
Rnd 9: sc around (12)
Rnd 10: (2sc tog, 1sc in next 2sts) x 2 (9)
Rnd 11: 2sc tog, sc in remaining sts.
Repeat row 11 until you have 4 sts remaining (gets a little fiddly), then continue working around the 4sts until your wattle is as long as you want it to be, finish off.
sew both wattle pieces together at the thin end, then sew to topside of beak - or underside if you prefer.

Beak (scrap of yellow):

6sc in a magic ring.
Rnd 1: (2sc in first st, 1sc in next 2 sts) x2 (8)
Rnd 2: sc around. (8)
Rnd 3: (2sc in first st, 1sc in next 3sts) x2 (10)
Rnd 4: sc around (10)
Finish off.
