Our dear friend has just become a grandfather for the first time, so I have made a set that consists of an adult viking hat for him, a baby viking hat for the new baby with a matching round rainbow ripple baby blanket. Baby Hat;
Made a basic hdc beanie for about a 3-6mnth old using 5.0mm hook. All added detailing made using 2.5mm hook.

Horns (Make 2);
2.5mm hook and white yarn.
Chain 22, sl st to join, ch1, sc around.
•Work another 3 rounds of sc.
•Next 2 rnds - Sc 8, ch 6, skip 6sc and sc in remaining 8sc.
•8sc, 6sc in unworked skip sts, 8sc.
•(9sc, sc2tog) x 2.
•Next 2 rnds - 9sc, ch4, skip 4sc, 7sc.
•9sc, 4sc in unworked skip sts, 7sc.
•sc2tog, 8sc, sc2tog, 8sc.
•3sc, sc2tog, 8sc, sc2tog, 3sc.
•sc2tog, 6sc, sc2tog, 6sc.
•3sc, sc2tog, 3sc, sc2tog, 4sc.
•Next 7 rnds - sc2tog, sc around.
•sc2tog, finish off and use yarn tail to close the point of the horn.

Base of horns (make 2);
Using 2.5mm hook and Charcoal yarn, ch 25, sl st to join, ch2, hdc around.
•4hdc, 1 puff st, (5hdc, 1 puff st) x 3, 2hdc, sl st to join, ch2.
•hdc, sl st to join - with the yarn still attached, work a round of rev sc and finish off - this will be the upper edge of the piece.
•Slide the collar over the base of the horn piece, attach grey yarn and join the two pieces by working a round of rev sc through both pieces, stitch to hat.

Round Ripple
I worked in grey until about rnd 10 - then worked every third round in blue.
I finished off the blanket with a round of reverse single crochet - 2 sts in the points and skipping the 2 stitches in the valleys…same as a normal round.
Finished blanket = 37 rounds + rev sc round.
Measures approx 1.25m point-to-point (almost 50”).
