Notes

Great pattern. Used RHSS for its sturdiness to hold up to a preschooler. Followed the pattern, starting with green for grass and switching to light blue for the sky.

Instead of a pocket, I put Shaun the Sheep on the front. He is made of black & aran RHSS yarn stitched into plastic canvas and then stitched onto the front of the backpack, as is his nameplate on the back. I didn’t use a contrast around the entire bag, instead I just used it around the flap and the straps.

I shortened the straps to fit a preschooler, and would make them even shorter next time (probably only around 24 rows.

I lined the inside with a barn-themed fabric found at JoAnn’s and sewed it in with a sewing machine.

My son loves his Shaun bookbag. This pattern was very easy to follow and to make and with great results.
