Made for the 2013 BAMCAL (Block-a-Month Crochet-Along) group here on Ravelry. (Join in!).
January Filler Square
Notes:
-
Expanded on the “x” rows – made 5 “x” rows total after the initial first rounds. Then continued on the pattern
-
The Xs themselves are front-post TRIPLE crochets. I definitely would not use DCs – even with the TCs, it tends to pull very slightly, I can’t imagine how out of shape it would be if I were using DC only. (This is keeping in mind that I crochet quite tightly).
-
Border is simple HDC in back loop only
-
I added the smallest bit of embroidery in the center for some definition.
This was made with a G hook. The BAMCAL squares are for 12”, and the pattern called for a larger hook and was originally only 9”, which is why I had so much opportunity to repeat rows until it was the size I needed.
I originally tried this with an “F” hook, just for the heck of it, but it turned out to be very thick, so I started over with the G hook. It’s still a very sturdy square, but if I were to use a worsted weight yarn, I would stick with at least an H or maybe an I hook.
I used Canon Simply Soft yarn in Chocolate, Off-White, Light Country Peach, and Sunshine.
Time: 9 hours
I would make this as a full-size afghan somewhere in the distant future. It was not a difficult pattern after you’ve mastered the initial couple of rounds.
