This is another yarn stash kit project. I bought the yarn during Small Business Saturday at Knitty City with the intent of making a cabled hat for my Dad for the holidays to go with his awesome aran knit sweater. (Hopefully, it will be ready for the 2012 holiday season!)
I’m using 32” Knitter’s Pride dreamz circular needles that I also bought at Knitty City. I’m not really feeling these needles and they seem to be splitting the yarn. (I say that because I’ve used this Cascade 220 Superwash many times before without a splitting problem.)
Also, my stitches were much smaller than the designer’s, so I added 18 stitches (another repeat) to my cast on, which seems to bring me closer to her intended size.
Updated 2/24/12: I decided to rip this out. The needles were driving me crazy and splitting the yarn. I will start it over with a different set of circulars.
Updated 2/25/12: I started the project back up using a set of ChiaoGoo Knit Red Lace circulars and things are going much better now!
Updated 3/9/12: I finished! Not bad, considering I’m the world’s slowest knitter and I had to restart the project and frog a few times.
I was relatively faithful to the pattern. There were some screw ups along the way, since I was mostly knitting during my commute, so the changes I made were mostly to correct mistakes or avoid pulling out stitches.
I did reduce the body of the hat a bit, skipping the last repeat of “Work 7 rows of…” Then, I accidentally did the cables as CR, so I continued that around.
I would recommend the pattern and might even make it again, but probably wouldn’t make the ribbing quite so long since it is so stretchy.
