This is a cross between a Granny McPhee and Babette Blanket
I started with good intentions of making the blanket in darker/duller colours than I usually use and ended up making brighter, more colourful squares with colours I am more used to using, see Nana’s Granny Blanket, but I did manage a few darker squares and have decided that I will make the McPhee after all.
I started each square with left over “starter squares” from this blanket
I have decided to make different size squares, so have made some 12 rd, 10 rd, 8 rd, 6 rd, 4s rd and 2 rd squares.
Note to self:
When making granny squares, always turn after each rd. The benefits are that you don’t get tilting of the square, which I am prone to and both sides of the blanket look the same, so no right or wrong side.
For this blanket I worked first 2 rds right side facing and then turned after each rd so that the squares ended with right side row.
I used join as you go method for joining the squares, there is a great tutorial here.
Youngest daughter Susie has claimed this one. She has a 4’ bed, so I will be making a few more squares than first anticipated. Really enjoying making these and each new square is my favourite:)
It is amazing how many combinations there are and how each square is different.
I really love the blanket and don’t want to part with it, but it isn’t going far. dd Susie still lives at home, so I can see it every day!
I have had another order, this time in mauve/purples from my dil Leah to make one for her friends 30th birthday.
Photo shows gd Annabel giving the blanket her seal of approval.
I have added the chart that I worked from for this afghan. Hope it will be of help:)
