Notes

Update: January 2023 I took this blanket apart and made it into 2 smaller blankets to gift to my local Hospital Maternity Ward. So glad they are going to be used at last.

I have made this type of blanket a couple of times before here and here.

Another of dd Cathy’s friends Sarah is having a baby and Cathy always likes me to make a couple of blankets for the new little one, one of which always has to be a gingham blanket.

This one is going to be yellow, oatmeal and cream, as we don’t know if baby is a boy or girl.

I like this square as it is a little prettier than the basic granny and adds a little interest.

I am using the join as you go method. You can find a great tutorial here of this technique.

I may add an applique owl or animal of some sort for a boy or a flower for a girl. Will have to wait and see.

Border:

Round 1: Cream 2hdc, ch 2, 2hdc for corner, hdc in each stitch.

Round 2: Oatmeal, same as Round 1.

Round 3: Yellow, 2dc, 2 ch, 2dc for corner, crossed dc all around.

Round 4: Same as Round 2

Round 5: Same as Round 1

Round 6: Cream, crab stitch or reverse sc st all around.

Note to Self:

I left off the last round and after the third row, I didn’t chain in between the clusters. I chained 3 on last round only at the corners.

When joining squares I chained 1 then joined with sl st and chained again at the corners.
