Still on my baby blanket making spree. I have found out that 3 of the 4 babies due later this year/early next are to be boys. I am hopeful that the last one will be a little girl because I have already made 2 pink blankets, but won’t find out until he/she is born. Up-date - I can’t believe it, yet another boy!!

I really couldn’t decide what to make this time, so started with all the different blue yarn that I had in double knit/sport weight and proceeded to make Lucy’s Summer Garden Squares, using white for the first and 5th rounds. I used the join as you go method to join them. I then decided that it was a little boring, so decided to add some pattern panels and make it into a Groovyghan.

Ripple Panel: Change to small hook for this panel

Sc into each stitch of the granny strip using the colour of each square, so they appear invisible.

R1. 2dc into 1st st, 1dc, 2hdc, 4sc, 2hdc, 2dc, 2tb, 2dc, 2hdc, 4sc all along finishing with 2dc in last st.
This give the mountain and peaks for the ripple.

R2. 2dc into 1st st, 3 dc, dc2tog twice, 4 dc, 2 dc in next 2 sts, 4 dc to end finishing with 2dc into turning ch.

Reverse these 2 rows to finish panel.

I did a bobble pattern for the 2nd panel as follows:

R 1: R.S. 1 row of dc.

Bobble Row W.S. Dc into 5 sts, bobble into next yo, insert through st, pick up loop, yo, pull through 2 sts, repeat 4 more times, until 5 sts. on hook, then yo pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through remaining sts, dc into next 5 sts.

R 3: Dc.

R4: Dc into 3 sts, bobble, dc 5 finishing with 3 dcs at end of row.

When I had finished all the panels, I decided to make the blanket a cot size rather than stroller as I still had quite a lot of yarn left, so added another couple of panels of grannies and then added grannies to the top and bottom (this took a long time for some reason). I did neaten each end of pattern panel (not grannies) by sc in the colour of the row which was only one or two stitches each time, this took a lot of sewing-in of ends, but I think it was worth it.

Now I only have to go around the whole blanket with a small border to finish off:)

I worked two sc rounds, the a crossed dc round, then a further two sc rounds and to finish off I worked a crab stitch (reverse sc) round.

Very pleased with this little blanket, it is a cot or lap quilt size.

Now onto my next project.
