Notes

Just using up scraps. Knitting with leftover sock yarn to make - essentially - a tube. Yarn held double throughout. This thing is getting so big, it’s beginning to scare me. Better bind off quickly, and add a tail and four stumpy feet.

I took pictures, but then realized that you can’t tell how big this FO is, so I took 2 more photos with the pig on top of a National Geographic magazine.

Here are notes on the construction. The snout is knit back and forth, then sts are picked up and the rest of the pig is knit in the round. Yarn is held double throughout; I just combined different balls of yarn that seemed to match.

Head & Body
Knit a garter-stitch snout (see chart).
Pick up stitches around the snout, and start knitting in the round.
Knit 10 rounds.
Next round: {k1, kfb} around.
Next round: knit.
Repeat these 2 rounds twice more (3 increase rounds total).
Knit until the size of the thing starts to scare you!
Stuff the body.
Next round: {k1, k2tog} around.
Next round: knit.
Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 6 stitches left. Knit a 6-st i-cord tail and bind off.

Ears
The ears are worked in the round, then sewn on.
Cast on 40 sts.
Knit 4 rounds.
Reduce as for a sock toe, until there are 4 sts left.
Cut the yarn and run it through the remaining sts, pull tightly and tie off.

Trotters
The feet are worked in the round, then stuffed and sewn on.
Cast on 30 sts. I used Judy Becker’s Magic Cast-On, so that I wouldn’t have to graft the end of the tube later.
Knit 15 rounds. Bind off. Stuff feet firmly and sew to body. The corners of the feet should curl in a bit. You can pinch them together to shape the trotters.
