I’m making this square for my “Be of Good Cheer” Samplerghan. :o)

The rather doofy name I’ve given this block was inspired by the fact that the pattern was intended to be used as a coaster (crocheted in size-10 cotton thread).

I decided to make the scallop rounds of my hearts in different colors from the hearts themselves. Also, I preferred the look of the scallop round when it was worked with right side facing (rather than with wrong side facing, as per the pattern).

I edged the joined heart squares (which I connected with join-as-you-go) with two “granny rounds” and a sc round.

The scallops aren’t quite as pretty (imho) after adding the rounds to make the hearts into squares-- compared to how they looked when the hearts were stand-alone. They tend to curl up instead of laying flat.

The hearts left as-is would be cute appliques or for garlands… or Christmas tree ornaments, etc.
