I enjoyed this pattern the first time around. Now I’m curious to see how it works up in a thinner variegated yarn.
Cast on 219 sts to make seed stitch less fussy.
In an attempt to reduce curling, garter stitch for 2 rounds (1 each of knit-only and purl-only) after the starting five rounds of seed stitch, then another 2 rounds of garter stitch before the finishing rounds of seed stitch.
I’m always a little paranoid about potentially running out of yarn, so to (partially) make up for the garter stitch rounds, I’m reducing the sections of stockinette stitch by one round each.
I needn’t have worried about running out of yarn. There’s a decent little ball left over. I’m not sure if it’s enough to add a simple crochet edging, though, and at the moment, I just want to move on to the next thing, so I’ll probably leave it as is.
I did a regular bind off “in pattern”-- knitting the purls and purling the knits, this time, since the last time I worked from this pattern, I noted that knitting the knits and purling the purls looked slightly wrong. Though I tried to bind off loosely, the bound-off edge is definitely not as stretchy as the cast-on. (Next time, maybe I should look into a different bind-off…)
I hope this grows a little with blocking. It’s ok as it is, but I think blocking might help bring out the pattern. The yarn is so soft and limp, it’ll never have that much body, but I think it’ll work as a lightweight cowl-- and it’s big enough to wrap around the neck twice, if you want something a little warmer.
The area at the beginning/end of each round doesn’t completely match the rest of the pattern, and I’m not sure if that’s due to my execution or just a fact of life with this pattern. It’s not awful, but I’d be happier if it was less obvious…
I enjoy the pattern this time around, too, aside from the slight disappointment over the (to me) obvious start/end of each round-- but I’ve learned that I don’t love knitting seed stitch. It looks nice, but knitting it just feels slow and tedious to me. I have to pay attention or my hands want to knit the knits and purl the purls. The mesh sections are lots of fun, though. :o)
Decided to include this in a gift, so I finally blocked it properly and crocheted a few flowers (in leftover yarn of the same dye batch) to “scatter” over the slightly-too-holey area. I think the flowers do a good job of disguising that problem area.
