Notes

May, 2007: This is a HAP style shawl and I’m just about finished with the center square. I’ll start adding the colors when I begin knitting in the round.

May, 2009: I’m currently approaching 900 stitches per round. I’ve shifted to longer circular needles (40”) vs. (24”) and it’s much more enjoyable to knit when the stitches aren’t all scrunched up.

August, 2009: FINALLY starting on the edging. Using a short double pointed needle to knit on the edging and this is working well.

August 19, 2009 - It’s DONE :)))))

It’s supposed to block to a 68” square - but that’s pretty large - so when I blocked mine I went for a 62”-64” square. You wear the shawl doubled (in uneven layers) to get dramatic geometric shapes. Because of the square color bands it is gorgeous on and you will understand what I mean about the geometric layers when you see it worn.

This is a garter stitch shawl - but because it is knit in the round every other row is a pearl row.

You could knit it on straight needles - but I think that would be a terrible option - for not the least reason that sewing together and aligning all the color bands at the end would be a tricky chore. If you knit it in the round, as soon as you finish the edging, you are done and have no ends to weave in or anything.

I’m hoping to take modeled pictures next weekend in San Clemente.
