I’ve had two collection ideas in my head, and couldn’t decide which to start with, but the peacock was the noisiest, so here we have the beginnings of Oriental Tales. :)
This one has 3 main feather charts, with transition rows in between, and an edging which can be repeated to make straight feathers or alternating feathers, depending on the sequence in which the rows are worked.

Testing well underway and pattern should up in the next week or so! :) Test projects here Nimble Knits
Written and charted.
Pattern rows RS only.
Lace to fingering - try dk if you like. :)
Any yardage.
In this test, I’ve worked 2 repeats of each chart, which gives one row of feathers in every size:
First feathers
First transition feather
Second feathers
Second transition feather
Third feathers
Last transition feather
Edging feathers - worked straight in this case.
Just under 400y. (360m)
Measures 160 x 45 cm after a moderate blocking.

A note on beads. This shawl can use a lot of beads if you wish, but I honestly wasn’t trying to torture anyone, so please feel free to bead more sparingly, or quite differently, or not at all! :D
As written, there are 3 beads per feather, and each repeat adds 3 more feathers. If you were to work this as all over lace, the numbers add up like this:
Repeat - #of feathers - beads per rep - total beads
1st - 2 - 6 - 6
2nd - 5 - 15 - 21
3rd - 8 - 24 - 45
4th - 11 - 33 - 78
5th - 14 - 42 - 120
6th - 17 - 51 - 171
7th - 20 - 60 - 231
8th - 23 - 69 - 300
9th - 26 - 78 - 378
10th - 29 - 87 - 465
11th - 32 - 96 - 561
I’ll stop there because it’s getting scary. Any small errors in the numbers above are due to me not being able to read my own handwriting. :)
