Using the more blue-toned skein. Hoping it will go well with jeans. Compared a swatch of the Malabrigo Sock with my Whiskey Barrel single ply. Very curious how they will differ. I am concerned that the Sock relaxes quite a bit when blocked - will it lose its stretch?
Mitts #5
based on my Whiskey Barrel mitts
CO: 50 sts
Needles: US2
Used Jeny’s Stretchy Cast-on
Divided 15-10-15-10 sts onto 4 needles
Joined and started K3, P2 ribbing
WRIST
40 rows = 4” on size US2 DPNs
Getting pooling of blue and the deep eggplant/brown that chases around the mitt. Has cool potential.
GUSSET
. Work gusset on the opposite side as the start (where CO long tail is). Get towards the middle of the other side, using one of the K3 (knit).
Gusset pattern (K1, M1L, K1, M1R, K1)
. The middle K1 ‘grows’ by 2 with each addition
. The increase row followed by 3 regular pattern rows, for a 4-row series.
. Work 8 sets of the 4-row series. Resulting 32 rows, and 19 knit stitches altogether.
. 41 - 45 - 49 - 53 - 57 - 61 - 65 - 69
. Do not stop on the 8th increase row. Follow it with the 3 regular rows.
. Total rows should be 72 (40 + 32).
JOIN
Work pattern up to the gusset. Knit the 1st stitch, then place 17 stitches on a holder. Carefully maneuver to snugly knit the last stitch, and proceed on with the rib knitting.
On the row after the Join, pick up extra yarn between join stitches and knit it. I figure it is nice because it brings it back into a K3-P2 pattern.
FINGERS
Work basic rib pattern for 17 rows (@2”) for a total of 90 rows.
Bind off with Lori’s Twisty BO using same size 2 DPNs. I tried using the Elastic BO, but it flares more than the Twisty, and I prefer a flatter BO on my mitts.
THUMB
~follows Liat Gat’s recommendations

Divide the 17 stitches onto two Size 2 DPNs. 9 stitches on the right needle, 8 on the left. Use a third DPN to knit 8 stitches from the Join area at the top of the thumbhole. The key is using Liat Gat’s method of knitting into two loops. Move 1 stitch from each of the other DPNs to the third one.
Unlike Liat, I knit the rest of Row 1 and Row 2. Then I decreased across the top (where I picked up the stitches) in Row 3. I k2tog 4 times. Then I adjusted the stitches to have 7:7:7 across the DPNs.
Work flat stockinette (knit) stitch for a total of 10 rows (1”).
Using same size 2 DPNs, did a simple Bind-off.
Left Mitt - debating whether I should knit identically? The cast-on/bind-off ‘nubs’ which I try to blend in carefully, would fall in slightly different places. I may place the gusset one K3 column earlier to get the nubs to fall in the same location on my hand and arm. When on my right hand, this first mitt has the nubs fall right on the edge of my arm and my pinky finger. While on the left hand, it falls more on top in those areas. Worn on my right, the pool chase of blue/raisin is obvious, while it is underneath my hand and arm on the left. Hmmm… decisions, decisions.
Chose to place the pooling on top. Both my mom and one of my friends like it.
Right Mitt = 16g
Left Mitt = 16g
Both mitts = 34g (maybe need a more accurate scale?)
Remaining skein = 64g
Now to weave the ends in!

Mitts #6
. US 1.5
. CO 45 sts
Sizing/Rows
. Wrist = 48 rows
. Gusset = 9 sets = 36 rows
. Fingers = 20 rows (to pinky knuckle)
. 104 rows total
. Thumb = 12 rows
Weight
. Mitts are 17g each
Smaller, more snug. Possibly a little longer in the arm. Gusset is a little long and perhaps does not need the extra set. No pooling like first pair. I like them.
