I bought this yarn in July 2010. I know this because it was still in the shopping bag (with the receipt and a page from a knitting desk calendar). One butter skein was on top, with 4 skeins of the ivory with speckles underneath. (I thought I had a bunch of yellow…and forgot about this other color…lol!)

That makes this a stash dive for a lovely young woman, pregnant with her first! They will not find out boy or girl, and she is due in April, so this cotton is a perfect yarn for a tiny, gender-neutral Sophisticate!

Notes/Mods:
Unlike my first Sophisticate, I will not slip the first stitch in every row. I thought this made the pick-up row look pretty loosey-goosey, which I did not like. Rather, I am knitting the first stitch for a tight, one-stitch, garter edge.

Hat, cast on 56, 18+18, decrease by 8s to 8, close top.

Will likely gift hat with this poem attached:
I know there’s a bow,
Even though you don’t know
If Baby’s a “he” or a “she.”

You can keep the bow.
OR un-button it, so
The hat can be both, you see!
