An afghan for Peanut…I’ve had the yarn in my stash for awhile now. The first day of 2013 is as good a reason as any to get started!
01-02-13 - Note: Row two is NOT a color change! The white is actually crocheted OVER the stitches in row 2, at the end. On my first square, I ignored the instructions, crocheting row 2 in white, but when I got to that last row in the square, I realized I should have just trusted the pattern…as usual! lol! Silly me, trying to correct a pattern that didn’t need correcting! (By the way, GREAT design, kudos to Joyce!)
01-03-13 - I wasn’t sure about that olive/sage green when I started, but after edging that first square in the white, I am certain! It provides the perfect “greenery” background for these bright flowers, and the white in the center and at the outside brightens everything up! I wanted the overall effect to be a white afghan, and I think I have it…I’ll check back after I start assembling squares to see if I still feel the same way, but I think I will!
01-07-13 - I have completed 15 squares, and I’ve fastened them together. It’s just a little too short and thin to start the borders, but I like the proportion that 3x5 squares gives for a little person. Sooo, I am making some half-size suares (with a 5-petal flower in the center), and I’ll border the big squares with these before working the traditional granny-style border. I think I will need 36 small squares…
Other Notes - the smaller squares are worked as follows:
Chain 3 ring, magic-ring, whatever.
Rnd 1: Ch3, dc, ch 2, #2dc, ch2#, rep from # to # 3 more times, join to top of first ch3. (5 ch2 spaces.)
Rnd 2: slip stitch to next ch2 space, ch3, (dc, ch2, 2dc) in same space. #(2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next ch2 space#, repeat 3 times more. (5 V-stitches)
Rnd 3: (4dc, Petal Point Picot, 4dc) in each ch2 sp, sl st between V stitches. (5 petals)
Rnd 4: Attach color B between petals, #lds into space below V sts in rnd 2, ch 6 behind petal#, repeat 4 times more, and join to beginning ldc.
Rnd 5: Ch 2, #(3hdc, hdc tack, 3 hdc) in next ch 6 space, hdc in next ldc#, repeat around.
Rnd 6: Ch4, dc in same space, dc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, trc in same st as last dc, #(ch 3, trc in next st, dc in same space, dc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, trc in same st as last dc)#, repeat from # to # two more times, and join to top of beginning ch 4.
Rnd 7: This round will be your border color, so you’ll have to work out your own numbers, and fudge a little here and there so that all your squares will fit together…Sorry that’s not more helpful…
