I don’t want a really thick doily. I am using bedspread weight cotton crochet thread. bedspread weight is heavier than #10 weight. so i am using a US Size 6 (1.8 mm) hook to account for the heavy thread. NO, it’s not as heavy as #3 which is like using sport weight yarn.
Skull doilies were a great hit with my sons last year and so it will be fun to add to their new collection. Both are in their 30s and so it’s a bit fun to make them things like this.
I have to say I am NOT impressed with the chart in the pattern. It’s well written - that part is great. It’s just that it’s very small and the colors hardly show up when you print the pattern. This chart can only be easily seen if you look at it on your computer and zoom in. That isn’t the designer’s fault. It’s Red Heart’s fault and whatever tech editor they are using. Poor choice for the chart because I like to print my charts. So, I give the chart on this pattern a total thumbs down because it’s so hard to see.
You need the chart to make sure you understand the instructions. The instructions are clear… if you can see the chart to make sure you understand.
Really a simple little doily. Shouldn’t take long to make at all - I am just chained to my computer to make it because of the issue with the chart.
Rnd 13 - I am making the eye ch-5 instead of ch-6. Hopefully this will take out the excess when doing the next row. Yep worked great.
Rnd 16 - i am making the ch 10 -> ch 9. again to remove what i see as just a bit too much chain.
Rnd 19 - Changing the ch 4 spaces to ch 3. again to remove too much chain.
Rnd 22 - I did a dtr2tog instead of a tr2tog - this particular section needs to grow to give the chains below room to spread out and not be crunchy. I did a ch 5 instead of ch 6 for the eyes to reduce to much chain.
Rnd 24 - I did a dtr2tog instead of a tr2tog - again, this makes my doily lay flat and look nice. There is an error in the pattern it says
… ** ch7, dc in next dc, ch4, tr2tog over same dc and next dc; repeat from …..
the bold is the error fixed. the italics are where i changed it to fit my gauge.
… ** ch7, dc in next dc, ch4, dtr2tog over same dc and next dc
Rnd 26 - I did a dtr2tog instead of the tr2tog.
