This pattern by Lion Brand is originally made for children two to five years old. However, as soon as I saw this adorable hat I knew that I HAD to make one for my sister and me to share. I made only a slight bit of modifications to the pattern such as how I used size ten needles for the hood part instead of nine. Here is a copy of the pattern and the changes I made to it: (ANY MODIFICATIONS WILL BE IN BOLD)
HOOD Using size 10 needles
Cast on 57 sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib for 9 rows.
Next Row (RS): Bind off 5 sts, k to end of row - 52 sts.
Next Row (WS): Rep last row - 47 sts.
Work in Garter st (k every row) until piece measures about 9 1/2 to 10 in. (16.5 cm) from beg.
Shape Top of Hood
Next Row: K22, k3tog, k1, place marker (pm), k to end of row - 45 sts.
Knit 3 rows, slipping marker as you come to it.
Dec Row: Knit to 3 sts before marker, k3tog, remove marker, k1, pm, k to end of row - 43 sts.
Knit 3 rows.
Next Row: Rep Dec Row - 41 sts.
Knit 1 row.
Rep last 2 rows 3 more times - 35 sts.
Bind off.
Cut yarn leaving a long yarn tail. Fold bound off row in half and using yarn tail, sew edges tog for top of Hood.
EARS (make 2) For the ears, use size 9 needles
With 2 strands of yarn held tog, cast on 7 sts.
Knit 7 rows.
Bind off. Cut yarn leaving a long yarn tail.
With yarn tail, sew Ears to top of Hood.
The only thing I did not add to this hat was crochet the finishing ties on the end.
I hope you enjoy this pattern. Have fun with your super soft, fuzzy, and cute bear hood! Happy knitting ♥
