A Christmas present for my 3 year old niece. Totally cute! I’m going to make one for Herborg as soon as the Christmas rush is over.
Dec 5th> I’ve had so many questions about the alterations I made to the hat, so I thought I’d just put them in here. :)
I cast on 74 sts to get the right size and then followed the pattern.
I didn’t bind off, but grafted the hat together to make the joint invisible. I omitted the pattern instructions for the tie band, but did this instead:
For the band at the front of the hat I picked up and knit 59 stitches, from the right side.
Round 2 (WS): P
Round 3: P
Round 4: K
Round 5: K
Round 6: P
Round 7: P
Round 8: K
Then bound off in purl from the right side.
I did one row of single crochet in green around the entire opening and then made i-cord ties.
The flower (I found these instructions on a blog somewhere, but can’t for the life of me remember exactly where):
Leaving a 10” length for sewing, chain 57.
Row 1 (Wrong side): (Dc, ch 2, dc) in sixth ch from hook (5 skipped chs count as first dc plus ch 2),* ch 2, skip next 2 chs, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch; repeat from * across: 36 sps
Row 2: Ch 3, turn; 5 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp, (6 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp) 5times, (9 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp) 5 times, (12 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next sp) 7 times;finish off leaving a 10” length for sewing.
Thread yarn needle with yarn end from beginning chain. With right side facing and beginning with the first petal made, refer to photo to roll Rose; sew to secure as you roll. Then thread needle with ending yarn and sew to secure.
I also added three knitted leaves which I knitted seperately and then attached to the hat. They were as simple as:
CO 3 sts
Row 1: p 3
Row 2: k1, m1r, k1, m1l, k1
Row 3: p5
Row 4: k2, m1r, k1, m1l, k2
Row 5: p7
Row 6: k7
Row 7: p7
Row 8: k2, s2kp, k2
Row 9: p5
Row 10: k1, s2kp, k1
Row 11: p3
Row 12: s2kp - 1 st remains, cut the yarn and pull it through the loop.
