Pretty, “want-want” pattern, intriguing and fun!
Ribs ensure perfect fit without the complication of shaping in pattern. Set-in sleeves are slim but not tight. Beautiful and quite flattering neckline. This works well in cotton, too.

Edit: it’s very short. If you make this, seriously consider adding 5 inch or so!
March 2010: Browsing through the magazine I fell so in love with this pattern, I actually missed my train. Bought the magazine, and decided to go for this sweet and girly vintage sweater - except, I am not that sweet and girly at all… and I dress rather more classically…
Anyway, this is to be MY FIRST KNITTED SWEATER JUST FOR ME, hence the name (why exactly this is evident is a German popcultural phenomenon).
March 28, 2010: bought the perfect yarn, started swatching…
turns out, the yarn is not so perfect after all. Will go to another project (Timpani).
May 1, 2010:
Still swatching for the right yarn.
April 27, 2011:
barely a year has passed - other things got knitted -- but today I finally cast on in purple lana grossa elastico.
now let’s see how long it will take…
June 19, 2011:
yawn. this is a bit tedious. So slow… have to find a way to gain speed. But I want the sweater, so on and on we go… row by row.
At least, back is already finished, and sleeves are near completion…
June 25, 2011: Finally finished sleeves. On to the body front… I’ll need more yarn!
July 15, 2011: The front was easier. And quicker, hurray - Finished! Now, seaming…
July 18, 2011: Reknit the neck border thrice - decided to make it wider. Took my time and finished seaming, very carefully - I want to get it just right!
It fits perfectly!
Modifications:
- for my rather classical style, I decided to leave out all the elements that attracted me to the sweater in the first place (ruffles, set-in top). Yes, I know. But I still LOVE this sweater! And I want to actually wear it, so I have to adapt it to my wardrobe…
- I prefer a long sweater - made front and back about 10 cm longer than asked for in the pattern (167 rows -- length of smallest size + 10 rows)
- wanted long sleeves instead of 3/4 lenght: beginning of sleeve caps after 50 cm (176 rows)
- changed neckline to same height as begin of sleeve decreases
- starting with purl row, 7 rows of garter stitch for neckline, casting of with 7th (purl) row
Edit after wearing
this is a short sweater. Annoyingly short. For my taste, it could and should be a lot longer. I will, one of these days, add a couple of inches using my leftover yarn. Otherwise: still love! Will not knit another cotton sweater though. Dislike cotton.
