Edit after 6 months of wearing: still love Timpani!
if I were to make another, I’d include a zipper - open jackets are no use for me against the chill.
Also, I’d use another solution for the “hem” -maybe moss stitch or garter, because the pretty slipped stitches keep rolling up.
Would use this to add some additional length, too.
The yarn wears great, hardly any pilling, and it’s beautifully soft!
April 17, 2010: finished swatch has the perfect gauge! That’s a new thing, never happened before! My needle size is 0,25 smaller than suggested though. (and no: the yarn is not lace but 6ply except it is not plied…)
April 18, 2010: Cast on. Wondering if you really have to graft the two pieces together, or if it might be possible to knit it in one piece. Cable patterns are “reversible” - you just have to adapt the instructions accordingly… will have to chart it out.
May 11, 2010: This is coming along very slowly… but I love the pattern. Isn’t it just so fascinating what happens out of a single string of yarn? three types of stitch, short rows and wow: so much different texture. And shape… well, you all know what I mean. It’s simply brilliant!
May 27, 2010: finally finished all the back and the second short row shaping. Now for the “backward” cables on the right front. Hope it works, this is taking far too long as it is. :-)
July 12, 2010: It did work! It is just too hot at the moment to continue with the sleeves… can’t hold a knitting needle…
September 18, 2010: Finished! After knitting the left sleeve twice (duh!) I finally finished my beautiful Timpani - it fits, it is warm and snug and I love it dearly! Hurray!
For the collar band I did not do the three-needle-bind-off though, it looked bulky on first try, so I sewed it flat and it’s just perfect.
Love Timpani!
Love the pattern, which taught me to rework my basics (never KNEW I was a combination-technique knitter…). Did I mention I love it?
(More pics and info in the posts; sorry: German only, but I’ll try and answer questions…)
Frogged this in December 2013 - I can do better by now, and the cardi no longer fits.
