Notes

After you have done the pattern once or twice, it is easy to pump these out. We sprayed with spray starch and ironed, but does not have the stiffness I was hoping for. At someone’s suggestion, dipped them in equal part water/sugar solution…but that was too stiff and snowflake seemed to lose detail. Washed those out, and it seemed to improve…still stiff. May try no starch/ironing and go straight to 1/4 sugar to 1 part water and give that a try. Would welcome anyone suggestions for stiffening because I thought a doily of several snowflakes would be lovely.

I used these individual snowflakes as take-home gifts for our Advent by Candlelight Event for the ladies at our table (see Snowmen project). With a red linen napkin background--the snowflakes were quite beautiful. Big hit with our guests :) Had put a string on each so can be hung as ornament.

I also made Christmas cards with these. White stock (8.5x 11 cut in 1/2 lengthwise, for different look) with navy square on front. Had snowflake with hanging thread, folded thread over top of navy square, secured with double-sided tape, taped square toward top of white stock. Stamped “blessings” saying on bottom of card in navy ink and another short saying on inside of card. Card with the extra bonus of handmade ornament. My husband loves to give these to some of his co-workers.
