I’m quite proud of this sweater. The only other faire isle work I’d done before this was hats. The hood isn’t quite big enough, but I don’t really wear hoods anyways. I found lovely silver buttons (which, while, not movie accurate, look very nice). It was an enjoyable knit overall and I’m very happy with the result. :D (Though the sleeves are about 6 inches too long. :) )
Link to color chart I created which I believe is more accurate to the movie sweater than the one that came with the sweater pattern.
03.22.2013: it’s done! It’s finally done! I sewed the buttons on this afternoon. The knitting itself was done last week, but I blocked it on Monday, didn’t finish drying until yesterday (Thursday), and then the buttons today.
03.18.2013: Re-did the shoulder seam last week. Soaked and am blocking today. Tomorrow: buttons.
02.19.2013: Finally finished the hood lining and picked up all the stitches for the button band. I have no idea how many, but my 40 inch circular I used is packed with stitches. Once I’m done the button band, I’m planning to re-seam the arm seams and knit the pocket edging and then I’m done! The end is in sight!
12.18.2012: Pockets have been added and I’m finally working my way up the body. 8 more inches until I separate for the shoulders.
11.19.2012: Re-doing the pocket linings because i realized that I don’t like the size of them. That means doubling the stitch count (I spent some more time counting stitches on some high res pics of Neville from the movie).
11.09.2012: Two sleeves finished! YAY! I’m planning on casting on the body tonight. Hopefully I’ll get that done quickly!
10.22.2012: I finished one sleeve last night! I’m so happy. I immediately cast on for the second one to keep the momentum going. Hopefully this sleeve will take less time as I worked out the kinks and mods for knitting flat on the first sleeve.
10.13.2012: Not going to be as screen accurate as I would have wished because Matthew Lewis is 6 feet tall. Myself? I’m 5’3” if I stretch. So in order to not have the cuff hang 6 inches below my hand, I’m shortening the whole thing. :( It’s still going to be baggy on me, but not insanely long.
09.23.2012: Restarted…. again, because after looking at high-res pics of the movie sweater i realized my chart was wrong. So I’ve ripped out and restarted again.
09.19.2012: Well, I’ve frogged what I had done of the sleeve.
I’m also converting to working the sleeves flat. I’m adding a selvage edge (in order to sew up the sleeve) to either side. I’ve also decided to make the 44” size instead of the 36” one, I like my sweaters baggy (means there’s room for layers!).
08.10.2012-2: Patons it is.
Guage: 6 stitches/inch, 7 rows/inch
I’m making the smallest size, so if it ends up a little big because of gauge, I’m not too worried about it. I like baggy sweaters anyways.
08.10.2012: I’m doing a second swatch with size US5 needles, guage was too large on US6’s, however, I’m thinking of changing to Patons Classic Wool instead of the acryli Loops & Threads that I have been using. I’m going to pick up a skein of each color on my way home and see what the swatch says.
08.09.2012: Swatching! I did change the color chart a bit because I looked at the pictures myself and decided to swap some colors, but I’m remaining true to the patterns math.
