Love, love, love how it looks, but really hated the pattern and the yarn is not the best for such a project. I learned a lot, but a lot of it was in the “had a learning experience” way rather than “this pattern educated me”. Oh well, it’s done!
Using a USB hook for crocheted steeks, following Eunny Jang’s tutorial because again the pattern is lacking in good information. Using white for the crocheting.
Really annoyed, because this yarn is definitely not sticky enough for this. Some ends have pulled out of the crocheted main steeks while knitting the band, though the shoulders seemed fine. Hopefully it will be fine, though I’m considering running a line of machine sewing next to the edging just to secure the knitting.
Body Numbers:
CO 214 body sts plus 5 steek stitches for the body of the cardigan. Increase to 240 plus 5 steek stitches.
So many problems!
Pattern Issues:
No row gauge given. This is more important than stitch gauge the way the pattern is written, and should be about 6.5 sts/inch, given the instructions of 8 inches of knitting over 52 rows.
My numbers happen to be the same as the example numbers in the pattern. Looking at the model sweater, there are not enough pattern repeats to increase every 6 rows and add 28 sts in the lice region. It should be more like increase every 3 rows.
Looking at the model sweater, for the body, there should be only one row of MC (increase row) before Wave Pattern, and one row of MC after but before the Lice Pattern.
Again, looking at the model sweater for the sleeves, there should be one row of MC before the Wave Pattern.
Check the KnitPicks Errata for chart errors (they no longer have that errata up, but do have a gauge that cannot be right, based on looking at the model/reading the pattern!), though they missed the error in the Snowflake Pattern for Body and there are two three errors in the Snowflake Pattern for Sleeve. One error is the same on each chart (on the inner snowflake-type diamonds, the right hand one has a dark square where it should be white on the eastern point) and the Sleeve should not include the last two columns in the chart - it’s the same as the first two columns of the repeat section. The Sleeve chart is also incorrectly numbered, and screwed up my calculations at first.
The Upwards Pyramid is a 5 row chart but should be 7, according to the model and written directions. They’re missing, I believe, a solid row and a row of CC2. Before starting this chart, after the lice, there should be a row of MC also, and in this row you can adjust the stitch count to be divisible by 6 to make the pattern fit nicely.
After the Snowflake Motif, knit 1 row MC (adjust sts to multiple of 6), 1 row CC2, 1 row MC, then the Pyramid and Diamond Pattern.
Corrugated Ribbing Hint On the first row, knit 2 sts MC, 2 sts CC1, then go to K2, P2 to have a nicer hemline.
3/6/09 - Almost finished one sleeve, after realizing that with my gauge (7 sts/8 rows per inch) the top charted motifs would be 6” instead of the 8” stated in the pattern, swatched and re-knit. Row gauge is never given, but in the directions you are to knit until 8” from desired length, then do the charts. Charts are only 8” if your gauge is <del>6ve knit as much as I would have for a gauge swatch anyway!
