Using up left over happy rose 3ply worseted from 100purewool.com.
My husband was watching The Warriors rugby league game on tv this afternoon so I, who isn’t interested in rubgy league, sat beside him and knitted this beanie, hense the name I’ve given it
Based general concept of spiral look on Hurricaine Hat that I’ve made perviously, but its a brim up pattern, and to make the most of the yarn I had left I wanted to go top down, so had to make up the pattern as I went.
Started with 3stitch i-cord, kfb into every stitch to get 6 stitches, put onto dpn, kfb into every stitch, kfb/ p1 around, k1/ kfb/p1 around, k2/kfb/p1 around, k3/kfb/p1 around, continue in this manor until 10stitches in each of the 6 sections, don’t do kfb in final section leaving 59 stitches in round, k9/p1 every row until desired depth, increase one stitch on final row, k1/p1 rib brim, cast off loosely.
When I got to the end of the hat I had more yarn left over than expected and as I wanted to use it all up I went back to the i-cord (which I had initially only done 1inch intending to knot) and picked up the stitches to make it longer so as to create the i-cord flower on the top.
Found the perfect button in my stash to complete the flower, its hard to see in the photos but its glittery all over the top
Turned out newborn sized with brim turned up, and will fit up to about 3mths old with brim down. The spiral through the body gives quite a bit of stretch.
