Notes

My inspiration for this throw is a photo of a quilt on Pinerest. I’m planning on using several different crocheted squares to complete the throw using patterns that match the quilt as closely as possible.

First five squares will be crocheted in the square from the Refreshing Throw - center square in Simply Soft “Watermelon” (Dark Pink) and next round of four in Simply Soft “Soft Pink”.

Third Round will be a square from Jan Eaton’s book “200 Crochet Blocks”. It will be in “Blue Mint” (turquoise), Watermelon and maybe “Off White”. Have to determine which flowered one I will use. I’m looking at several but I like No. 87, “Peony”. I’ll have to do up a sample.

Fourth Round will also be a square from Ms. Eaton’s book - probably her “Nine Patch Granny” No. 61 in “Watermelon”, “Soft Pink” and “Off White”.

More coming….

Update: Unfortunately the square “Peony” #87 was too large and slightly heavier in weigh for my envision throw.

However, I crocheted up “Framed Flower” #54 and it was just right in texture, weight and matches the quilt’s flower square very nicely.

The last design to match is the fourth round of the quilt. I’m calling that design “Plus Sign” for a better description. I’m using Jan Eaton’s “Nine Patch Granny” #61 for that round. I had to experiment with hook sizes to get a square similar in size to the other two designs. I think an “E” hook will work quite nicely. it will be a bear to slip stitch all those little granny squares together but the results will match the quilt as close as I can get it.

Once the first four rounds are done I will have to figure out my pattern design for the rest of the throw.

Update 3/29/14:

I ran out of Soft Pink yarn on the last (20th) refreshing square. Have to get more at Michaels. In the meantime I decided to do the last round (no. 7) in Half Triangle Grannies to square the throw for the edging. I will post a link to the pattern and the video soon. Not hard to do but all the different color ends are a bear to weave in.

Update: 4/4/14 Ran out of Soft Pink in the middle of my last Refreshing square of round 6. Project is on hold until I can purchase some more yarn. Errrr!

Update: 4-17-14 Went to Michaels and bought yarn (it was on sale…if I had realized before I got to check out I would have bought more!). Have my Soft Pink yarn now to finish throw.

Edging:

Round 1: Single crochet in every stitch and space (where appropriate) with three single crochets in corners (Soft Pink)

Round 2: Single crochet in every stitch with three in corners and where pink squares are there is a slight valley so I did an half double, a double and a half double again in each to even out the valley. (Soft Pink)

Round 3: Double crochet, chain one, skip next stitch all around except in corners: double crochet, space, 3 double crochets in next stitch, chain one, double crochet in next stitch, chain one then continue with double crochet, chain one, skip next stitch all around. (Watermelon)

(I’m too lazy to write down my stitches as I “wing” my edging but I’ll try):

Round 4: Single crochet in every stitch and space around except three single crochet in corner (Heather Grey);

Round 5: Double crochet in every stitch except three double crochets in corners (off white);

Round 6: Chain one, skip double crochet in previous round, then double crochet front post in next stitch around (off white) ;

Round 7: single crochet in stitch, then chain three skipping next stitch repeat around (off white).

Round 8: repeat round 7 (off white);

Round 9: repeat round 7 (off white).

Add top stitch round after round 7 completed to top of round 6 in “Mint Blue”. Single crochet over the previous double crochet front post then chain one skipping next double crochet repeat around.

I hope this makes sense. I’m not a pattern writer. There is a close up photo of the edging.

The last thing to do is embroider a label. I sure hope my niece likes it.

7-21-14: Machine Embroidered a label and gave the lap throw to my niece. She loved it!
