Notes

Jamie wants a blue jumper with a two horizontal purple stripes for a cosplay outfit. It needs to be a plain round-necked jumper. A plain pattern was surprisingly hard to find! This pattern seems just the ticket. There’s a little garter stitch on the sleeves, but that’s fine.

As my tension is a little loose I actually did a swatch. Also, the wool I’m using could be classed as ‘light fingering’ rather than fingering. I used a 3.5 mm needle and my tension was just a smidge over the pattern gauge. This is fine as Jamie would prefer the jumper to be on the baggy side and I think I have more than enough yarn.

Jamie’s chest measured 36” so I’ll do the M size (37”). As he is such a short stop, I’ll probably trim a little length of the sleeves and the body.

Ribbing: 17 rows on 2.5 mm needle

February 18, 2016

Completed the increasing part of the yolk. The piece measures 7”. Worked straight until 60 rows completed for piece to measure 9”

February 19, 2016

Put the sleeve stitches on a thread and cast on for the underarm, then knitted 20 rows in blue. Joining purple for the first stripe using method described here: http://techknitting.blogspot.co.uk/2007/01/jogless-stripe...

February 20, 2016

Worked 15 rows for first purple stripe,15 rows for blue stripe, 15 rows for second purple stripe. Continuing in blue to end.

February 22, 2016

Worked 110 rows (from underarm). Changing to smaller needles for rib. Working the bottom rib on 2.75 mm

February 23, 2016

Worked 14 rows of rib and cast off using Jeny’s Surprising Stretchy Bond Off

February 25, 2016

Picked up stitches for 1st sleeve and worked 66 rows before starting to decrease. Worked 64 rows in decrease pattern. Jamie tried it on at this point and the sleeve will be long enough once the ribbed cuff is added. This is shorter than the length given for the sleeve in the pattern, but he’s quite short and so are his arms!

February 26, 2016

Finished first sleeve. Worked 14 rows of rib on 2.75 mm needle in purple.

February 28, 2016

I’ve finished the second sleeve :) I just need to sew in a few loose ends, then I can block it.

March 7, 2016

It’s blocked and I’m really happy with how it has turned out. I was worried about the neck; I’d cast on loosely and it was so crinkly. It blocked beautifully and looks just fine now.

More importantly, Jamie is thrilled with it. You can see the reference photo I was given - there wasn’t much to work with! The pattern was excellent. Everything was really well explained and there were no “Eh? What?” moments.

I swatched and used a slightly smaller needle than was called for. I used a lot less yarn than the pattern called for. It suggested 1500 yards, but I used less than 1200.
