with a Jared Flood pattern and exquisitely dyed Madelinetosh yarns, how can you go wrong?!

doesn’t the center square look like a tidal pool? you can almost imagine little sea creatures beneath the surface ~ it’s mesmorizing to look at in person ~

7-23-2012 - finished, blocked and final photos by this weekend ~ YAHOO!!!! it’s about time ;)

FINAL DIMENSIONS:
preblocked: 34 x 34”
blocked: 48 x 48” {68” diagonally both ways}(could have gone bigger but I liked how this looked
relaxed after blocking: about 46 1/2 x 46 1/2”

YARN USAGE (approximate ~ figured after the fact for a fellow raveler who inquired :) ….)
there’s no weight on madtosh prairie skeins & I didn’t have a scale when I did this project so skeins weren’t weighed before hand BUT :) …
looking at others notes average weight per skein is about 118g:
I have my leftovers so I weighed those for you:
•center square (19.0g left) so used about 99g (84% of skein)
•horseshoe lace (50g left) so used about 68g (58% of skein)
•lace edging (67.0g left) so used about 51g (43% of skein)

Edging Helpful Hints

• I placed a removable stitch marker every 4 stitches for the first 24 stitches just to make sure I stayed on track with my join stitches & when I came to one, I removed it and added it on 4 stitches from where my last stitch marker was (saved me the headache of getting to the last chart repeat before the corner and finding out that I’m off somehow and needing to tink back for miles and miles)
• the corner ~ I ‘got’ what I was supposed to do, just took me forever to figure out exactly how I was supposed to do it! for rows 2 and 6 when you do your ‘join stitch’, you really do k the last stitch of the edging together with the live shawl stitch but then it says to leave the join stitch on the needle…..I finally figured out you don’t leave BOTH stitches you have just knitted together on the left needle, but instead, separate the 2 stitches and leave the ‘join (shawl side)’ stitch on the left needle and drop the ‘edging’ stitch off ~ took me a 1/2 hr to figure this out!

2-19-2012 - the horseshoe lace is finished ~ I finally caved and put the whole thing on a 60” circular on row 36 and holy. smokes. … this is one huge shawl! and there’s more to go (I LOVE IT!)

1-29-2012 - I have a square!!!! Time for some lace…yippee ;)

1-28-2012 - decreasing on the center square and down to 100 stitches (getting close!) ~ helpful hint: the knitting does get heavier with every row and seeing that there are less and less stitches on the needle as you go it really is a smart idea to keep the finished work pooled on a table or in your lap to keep it from ‘pulling’ too much on your live stitches and messing up your gauge the closer you get to the last garter stitch row

1-14-2012 - got the best pics yet of my yarn colors ~ it’s starting to snow outside and the light is just right ~ this center square is going to be so luscious when it’s finished ~ it’s already so big and luxurious as just a triangle

Friday the 13th - midway point on the garter square ~ who says it’s a bad luck kind of day!

I’m not even to the center of the garter square where you start the decreases ~ maybe by the end of the weekend (fingers crossed!)

1-7-2012 - I’ve changed yarn color twice now and have added a third color to my final choices so I think I’m finally set on my yarn (whew!) ~ madtosh ‘cove’ for the center square, a heavily brownish madtosh ‘french grey’ for the first lace chart and then a greyish batch of ‘french grey’ for the last chart …
