I decided to just use a cable needle. I found the cabling without one more of a headache than it was worth. With the cable needle, it goes faster and more smoothly for me. But YMMV.
I really am surprised I am doing cables. And the knit sts in the cable are all knit through the backloop. Whee. It takes some time and focus, but the pattern is really beautiful.
I had started the Serenity socks and just couldn’t get gauge. 10.5 sts per “ with fingering… I just couldn’t do it. I decided to keep the toes and find something else in toe-up that I liked for this yarn.
I hadn’t knit socks since before my daughter was born in fall 2009. But I have been wearing my hand knit socks all the time as the new apartment is so cold. I needed more wooly socks. So I figured I should cast on some new ones.
This yarn was calling to me. I got it last Xmas but because I haven’t been knitting stuff for myself, it has been just waiting for me. The colorway is beautiful. (Though wish there hadn’t been two knots in the skein that I had to cut out. I hate lost yardage & weaving in more ends. sigh)
In my pregnancy fog, I dreamed perhaps I would finish them in time for the birth of my baby boy in March of 2011! With my daughter in the house. Who is 18 months older than her baby brother. laugh What was I thinking? I blame the pregnancy hormones & lack of sleep!
These babies lingered for at least the first year and change of my son’s life. I think they may have been the project that was on my needles longest since I started knitting.
Cables and babies are a bad combo. So they went into limbo. But I committed myself to finish them in 2013. Which worked as they are done.
I love the finished product. They are beautiful. And because of the almost ribbing at the back of the leg, they fit wonderfully.
Really thought I took some good pics, but can’t find them. So I snapped a few shots. I think with the sunlight it makes them look less dark in color. But the flip side is that it shows the detail better. Hard to photograph these well but they are a stunning, rich color.
Less than a year’s worth of wear before these developed holes. Mind you, I only have some handknit socks. But seems quick.
