I scored 2 skeins of the lovely limited edition Lorna’s Laces colorway Sochi, in her silk/bamboo makeup.
Looking for a shawl pattern to emphasize the beautiful metallic looking golds, bronzes and silvers, I wanted a pattern with a large amount of either garter or stockinette stitch and not too much lace, so that the striping would not be too broken up.
I found this, which calls for 330 yds. of fingering or sport weight and doing it in 440 yards of dk weight. I want to make this shawl as large as possible: more shawl than scarf, and will be trying to get in an extra repeat of the stockinette portion.
This pattern was really hard for me to understand at first. I didn’t realize I was starting in the center by the neck. Can you tell this is my first triangular shawl? But once my buddies explained how to read the pattern, it is a piece of cake!
So far it is just knit, purl, bind off, and Yarn Overs between knit stitches. Any beginner who has mastered the first three could make this easily. It looks much harder than it is.
I am loving knitting this! Silk yarn on my Addi Lace is a dream. Seeing the pattern and the colorway unfold keeps my interest.
Well my crack math skills have failed me. I ran out of yarn on the triangular border. :( Will call the supplier, the maker, and beg on Ravelry for a few more yards. Worst comes to worst, I have to unknit a few rows.
--- Rinsed and blocked. A LOT of color comes off. Ruined my towel. Found a HUGE hole while I was blocking. Not sure where it came from but need to mend it. Other than that, I am very happy with it. Light and soft.
