Notes

I didn’t embroider a cat face on the mittens because Maddi is not a cat person.

Maddi’s favorite color is lavender and the only lavender yarn in my stash was fingering weight so I held the yarn double.

I knit for 2.5” before starting the thumb gusset instead of 3.25”.

For the flip top I knit the length per size medium instead of large. The finished flip top is 4.5” long.

I knit a convertible thumb.

Right Thumb:
-Knit for 1” - 16 sts
-Knit 8 sts, BO 7 sts
-Knit 8 sts, CO 7 sts, knit 1 st
-Knit for 1”
-K2tog around - 8 sts

Left Thumb:
-Knit for 1” - 16 sts
-BO 7 sts, knit 8 sts
-CO 7 sts, knit 9 sts
-Knit for 1”
-K2tog around - 8 sts

I used two 5/8” buttons from lotsofbuttons.com.

Measurements:

  • Circumference: 6.5”
  • Mitt Length: 8”
  • Hand Length: 5.5”
  • Flip Top Length: 4.5”
  • Thumb: 3” circumference, 2.25” long
