Notes

For the body:

  • Started with 6 rs of garter sts.
  • Knit through the back loop on the right and wrong side only sts marking the thin columns between the main motifs
  • Instead of alternating back and front crossing kept the same cable pattern for all separating columns
  • My row gauge being different, made 27 decreases for the back raglan: 5 times decrease 1 st on both sides every 2 rs 2 times and every 4 rs 1 time, 11 times decrease 1 sts on both sides every 2 rs.
  • 20 decreases on both sides in every 2 rs for the front.

For the sleeves:

  • No steeks
  • Knit in the round on double pointed needles till the raglan
  • Knit the raglan part flat on smaller circular needles
  • Used 3 sts (1k through the back loop, 1 purl, 1 knit through the back loop) in blue to separate the beginning and end of the fair isle pattern to avoid jog
  • Pick up 62 sts and rib in 1X1 for 30 rs
  • Increase 16 sts in the last row, 78 sts
  • Increase 2 sts every 8th row 4 times, 86 sts
  • Fair isle pattern 90 rs
  • Raglan decreases as for the body - first 2 and last 2 sts knit in blue.

For the collar

  • Pick up 164 sts around the neckline, work in the round in 1x1 ribs with every knit st through the back loop

  • At 4 points of connection between sleeves and front and back along the seem - 2 ktb, 1 p, 2ktb, markers before the first knit st.

  • After 6 rs, decrease 4 purl sts between 2ktb

  • In 8 row, decrease 1 st before the first 2 ktb, and 1 st after the second 2 ktb (8 sts decreased altogether)

  • Repeat decreases twice in every 6th row (change needles to 0.5 size smaller)

  • 6 rs of ribs, increase 8 sts (same way as you decreased). Repeat increases in the reverse order till you have the initial amount of sts.

  • Fold the collar in half to inside and BO sts as follow: slip 1 st knitwise from the left needle to right, pick up and knit corresponding st from the pick-up row on the wrong side of the neckline, pass slipped st over picked-up st, slip next st from the left needle to right, pick up and knit corresponding st from the pick-up row, pass slipped st over picked-up st, then pass the first st on the right needle over the second st etc.until all sts are bound off. I wrote more about the design of this sweater on my blog.
