I designed a miniature knitted bassoon toy! It will be a present for my friend Katherine, who is about to take her ABRSM Grade 8 exam. In fact, if you look closely at the key at the base of the crook, it’s a silver bead with the letter K on it :)

The knitting, stuffing and sewing up was all done on Saturday, then I sewed on the buttons etc. this morning (Sunday). For the non-circular keys I cut rectangles from a piece of grey felt. The holes on the front of the bassoon are black wooden beads, and the crook is i-cord worked around a piece of pipecleaner. Most of the shiny, “silvery” buttons are actually mother-of-pearl.

Not to scale, and some of the keys are placed rather haphazardly! Call it artistic licence…
